Carl Nienhuis is a member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and is a graduate of the University of Ottawa where he obtained his Master's in Human Kinetics, specializing in Intervention and Consultation in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
Under the supervision and instruction of some of Canada's leading sport psychology consultants, Carl learned from the best while on his own pursuit of excellence. Prior to arriving at U of O, Carl obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley
(Abbotsford BC).
Carl stumbled upon sport psychology as a university volleyball player, and instantly found his passion. Wishing he had been able to utilize the skills and tools of sport psychology from a younger age, Carl is now on a mission to educate and help athletes of all ages from all competitive arenas as a Mental Performance Consultant. Carl is able to combine his longtime love of sport and physical activity with his profession as he helps others stay committed to achieving their potential.
From working with young children to elite international athletes, Carl continues to forge meaningful relationships with everyone he meets. Either as an athlete, coach or consultant, Carl has familiarized himself with a wide range of sports, including volleyball, basketball, fencing, endurance running, golf, tennis, baseball, hockey, athletics, shooting, equestrian, cycling... and his pursuit of learning will continue to expand that list.
Carl believes that the best means of communicating the skills and tools of sport psychology is by living them himself. He strives to show care and devotion in his personal and professional relationships. He seeks to connect with others, learning from them and with them. Carl's commitment to healthy living requires a personal commitment to physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. Aside from his active involvement in a variety of sports, Carl enjoys reading, writing, being outdoors, and spending time with his wife and children.
